Coffee, Craft and Community

Roasting since 2005, we’ve spent the last two decades sourcing, crafting and sharing exceptional coffee—always driven by curiosity, care and a passion for flavour.

History

Heartland Coffee began as a passion project. After moving to London from New Zealand in 2000, Mal & Tara started roasting coffee in their flat—driven by a love for great-tasting coffee and a dream of one day opening a café.

By 2005, that passion became something more. They took the plunge, roasting coffee commercially and supplying some of London’s best cafés and restaurants. As demand grew, so did their vision.

In 2012, looking for fresh air and space for their three daughters, they relocated to North Wales—bringing Heartland Coffee to Llandudno. The move coincided with the rise of an independent coffee scene along the North Wales coast, and Heartland quickly became a part of it.

Much has changed since those early days of roasting coffee in a kitchen, but the passion remains the same—seeking out exceptional coffee and sharing it with others.

Ethos

Coffee is a journey of discovery, and we’re here for every step.

We explore new origins, test different roast profiles, and experiment with brewing methods to uncover the best in every bean. Our approach is hands-on, thoughtful and always evolving.

This pursuit of quality isn’t just about the coffee in your cup—it’s about the connections it creates. From the farmers we work with to the cafés we supply and the customers who brew at home, coffee is about community.

We believe in sourcing responsibly, paying fairly and sharing the stories behind every bean.

Mission

Our mission is simple: to source and roast the best coffee we can while raising expectations of what coffee can be.

We challenge ourselves daily to faithfully capture the unique flavours within each bean and present them at their very best. Through every roast, every brew and every conversation at the bar, we aim to bring people deeper into the world of specialty coffee.
